"Everything Girls Need to Know About Money" Program Empowers Over 130 Young Women and Secures Additional Funding from Bendigo Community Bank

Bright, Victoria – 01/03/2024 – Kids Get Money is proud to announce the successful completion of the “Everything Girls Need to Know About Money” program—a pioneering financial literacy initiative designed to empower young women with the skills and confidence necessary for a secure economic future. Over 100 young women from the North East region of Victoria participated in the program, which recently received additional funding support from Bendigo Community Bank in Mansfield and Bright.

The program was developed in collaboration with the Women In North East (WINE) Network and focused on delivering authentic, accessible educational experiences that introduced valuable financial skills while inspiring lasting financial confidence. Participants engaged in interactive sessions that tackled common myths and limiting beliefs about women’s roles in economic management, challenging traditional stereotypes and encouraging a growth mindset around money.

“Through this initiative, we provided a supportive environment where young women could reimagine their financial futures and recognize their own value,” said Annette Rose, Founder of Kids Get Money. “Our program not only built essential financial skills but also promoted mental and physical wellbeing, dignity, and respect. It was incredibly inspiring to witness our participants confidently ask questions, start saving, invest, and assert what they are entitled to and deserve.”

Key highlights of the program include:

  • Empowering Education:
The curriculum was designed to be authentic and accessible, introducing practical financial skills that promote long-term financial wellbeing and resilience.
  • Challenging Gender Stereotypes:
The project directly addressed and challenged common prejudices regarding women’s traditional economic roles, fostering an environment where limiting beliefs were explored and overcome.
  • Community Engagement:
Beyond the classroom, strategic marketing and networking initiatives activated local community awareness, promoting gender equity and equality throughout the region.
  • Future-Proofing Financial Independence:
By equipping participants with the ability to manage finances independently, the program has provided a safeguard against potential future financial and economic abuse, contributing to overall mental and physical wellbeing.
  • Support from Bendigo Community Bank:
The program’s success was further bolstered by additional funding from Bendigo Community Bank in Mansfield and Bright, underscoring the commitment of local partners to support gender equality and financial empowerment initiatives.

The “Everything Girls Need to Know About Money” program stands as a unique and transformative initiative in the region. Its success has generated a swell of community interest and support, paving the way for the development of future initiatives in the education sector and beyond.
